Visiting Ortona To Remember The Canadian Soldiers.
I visit my childhood home and pay tribute to the Canadian soldiers that sacrificed their lives to keep my town my region my province free so we can have a life. Ortona in 1943 was under Nazi Germany rule, the Germans had captured the town and had everyone living in fear. Life in Ortona had become a living hell. December 5 saw the start of the Canadian offensive with the objective to free Italy and chase the Germans out, what would follow would be the fiercest battle ever waged in WW2. December 20 would be the day that the 1st Canadian Infantry Division and the 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade commence the battle to free Ortona, Hitler had vowed never to surrender Ortona and had ordered General Richard Heidrich to fight
